Redwood Cares Foundation Builds on Redwood’s Commitment to Community Giving

Redwood Living, Inc. is building on its longstanding commitment to giving back with the formation of the Redwood Cares Foundation, an Ohio nonprofit corporation established to support qualified charitable organizations that work to change lives, strengthen communities and serve those in need.

The new foundation formalizes Redwood’s philanthropic efforts while creating a dedicated structure for charitable giving. Through thoughtful and responsible philanthropy, the Redwood Cares Foundation will help Redwood deepen its impact in the communities where its employees, residents and investors live and work.

“Giving back has always been an important part of who we are at Redwood,” said Steve Kimmelman, founder and CEO of Redwood. “The Redwood Cares Foundation gives us an opportunity to build on that commitment and be even more intentional about supporting organizations that strengthen the places we call home.”

Continuing the Redwood Cares tradition
The formation of the Redwood Cares Foundation builds on the Redwood Cares annual giving initiative, which launched in 2022 to give employees, residents and investors a voice in the charitable causes Redwood supports. Each year, participants are invited to nominate a nonprofit organization, with two organizations selected from each group to receive monetary contributions plus volunteer and awareness support.

In 2025/2026, Redwood supported six organizations representing a range of causes across its footprint:

  • Young at Heart Senior Pet Rescue, nominated by a Redwood employee, provides senior dogs and cats with safe, compassionate care and helps give vulnerable animals a second chance.
  • Trust The Journey, also nominated by a Redwood employee, supports children with disabilities, complex medical needs and learning differences and their families, including through its Trust The Journey Academy in Brunswick, Ohio.
  • Blessings in a Backpack, nominated by a Redwood resident, works to ensure school-aged children have access to food on weekends when they might otherwise go hungry.
  • Miami Valley Meals, also nominated by a Redwood resident, transforms donated and rescued food into nutritious meals distributed through nonprofit partners to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.
  • Free Bikes 4 Kidz Detroit, nominated by a Redwood investor, collects, refurbishes and distributes bicycles and helmets to children who may not otherwise have access to them.
  • In Step With Horses, also nominated by a Redwood investor, provides trauma-informed mental health services that incorporate connections with animals and nature.

2,500 hours of service for America250
Redwood’s commitment to service has taken on additional significance in 2026 as the company joins the nation’s celebration of America250.

Through its VTO program and community service efforts, Redwood employees are working toward a companywide goal of 2,500 volunteer hours in 2026, honoring the country’s 250th anniversary. To date, employees have contributed 1,798 hours through activities ranging from food bank support and animal shelter assistance to charity races and outdoor clean-up efforts across Redwood markets.

The effort aligns with America250’s America Gives initiative, which encourages individuals and organizations to make 2026 a year of service.

“Service is one of the most tangible ways we can contribute to the communities around us,” said Kimmelman. “As we celebrate America250, our employees are putting that idea into action by giving their time and talents to our Redwood Cares nonprofits and other causes that matter to them.”

2026-2027 Redwood Cares Nominations now open
With the Redwood Cares Foundation now established, Redwood’s 2026-2027 Redwood Cares selection process is officially underway.

Employees, residents and investors should refer to the recent email they received regarding Redwood Cares to nominate a qualified charitable organization that is important to them. Once again, two organizations will be selected from each category to receive a contribution from the Redwood Cares Foundation.

The 2026-2027 Redwood Cares recipients will be announced later this year.
