Redwood honors employees with month-long celebration
Redwood Ambassadors were recently treated to everything from team outings and summer-themed gifts to sweet treats and a big bash at the corporate office, all in celebration of the company’s annual Employee Appreciation Month.
“While we strive to demonstrate appreciation to our team members daily, we always look forward to the opportunity to take some intentional time to honor their hard work, talent and dedication to Redwood,” said Steve Kimmelman, Founder and CEO at Redwood.
Redwood’s 600+ employees span nine states. Team members located at Redwood’s neighborhoods and out in the field gathered for regional team events of their choice. Some groups attended baseball games, others took a trip to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, while some took time to create unique pieces of art.
“We encourage our site teams to choose an activity that is fun and meaningful based on their locations and team’s interests,” said Mike VanGelder, EVP of Property Operations. “We enjoy seeing photos and hearing the stories of how they celebrated and spent their time together as a team.”
Back at the Redwood corporate office, there was an afternoon of food and beverage trucks, outdoor games and live music to commemorate Employee Appreciation Month.
All Redwood employees received branded beach bags, beach towels and thermoses, along with a sweet treat of their choosing from Sugar Wish. To top it off, team members were granted an extra four hours of paid time off to use during 2024.
“The future is bright at Redwood thanks in large part to the ambassadors who champion our mission and create a remarkable living experience for our residents,” said Kimmelman. “It’s critical that we listen to their feedback and ensure our programs and policies evolve to meet the wants and needs of our dedicated workforce.”
Redwood adds another national award for outstanding company culture

Great Place To Work selected the 2024 Fortune Best Workplaces in Real Estate by analyzing confidential survey responses from more than 1.3 million employees, representing the experiences of over 8.2 million employees in the U.S. in 2023 and 2024. Of those, more than 29,000 responses came from employees at Great Place To Work Certified companies in the real estate industry. Company rankings are derived from 60 employee experience questions within the Great Place To Work Trust Index™ Survey.
According to Great Place to Work, 92 percent of Redwood employees say it’s a great place to work, compared with 57 percent of employees at a typical U.S. company. Some reasons employees say Redwood is a great place to work include:
“Redwood continues to rise in the rankings of this prestigious national award, and we are beyond proud of that recognition,” said Kimmelman. “The fact that this honor is based on direct feedback from our team makes it all the more gratifying.”
